"Passeurs d’Arts believes that music leads to better society"
From Vénézuela to France
Nowadays, more than six hundredthousand children and teenagers joined the orchestras and choirs in the entireVenezuela. El Sistema, with politicians’ help, allowed the creation of numerous institutions that give young people the possibility to discover the culture and artistic flourishing. In the meantime, the juvenile delinquency in Sistema’scircle reduces in an impressive way.
For Venezuela, music becamethe admired ambassador all over the world. Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra (thepride of the orchestras linked to Sistema) that made its debut at Carnegie Hallin New York in 2007 under the now well-known conductor Gustavo Dudamel (alsocoming from Sistema) is today touring around the world, loved by the public.
The conductors and all themusicians observing this phenomenal form of education show with unanimity theiradmiration. The association Passeurs d’Arts develops and adapts this form to France.
As in Venezuela, in France we have disadvantageous neighborhoods and the same problem of the belief that access to art is reserved to the social elite. Passeurs d’Arts created, in collaboration with El Sistema Venezuela, an educational project for children of all origins living at the French territory, based on the idea of forming together beautiful orchestras that would show that art is the best device that we have to our disposition.
Musicas universal language
Establish the music education system as a way of social improvement. El Sistema allows children tobreak free from the difficult social situation by making them play music and thus taking care of them. Being associated to an orchestra or a choir, those children quickly familiarize with artistic disciplines and the complete practice.
A child-musician who is practicing a music instrument four or five hours a day,six days a week, acquires skills that eventually become to him a passionate activity that drives him to wanting to achieve the excellence; he can thus see himself as a member of the orchestra and have a common goal with his friends and a possibility to see a new perspective through music.
