Bilkent Symphony Orchestra : 3 ladies for one orchestra

On December 12, in Bilkent Konser Salonu, the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra-Ankara performs with 3 women artists of the rising generation: Conductor, Soloist and Concertmaster!

Stamatia Karampini, replacing John
Axelrod, makes her debut on Bilkent SO’s podium, the violinist Sayaka Shoji performs
Sibelius and for this “women’s edition” Alexandra Conunova exceptionally
accepted to be Guest Concertmaster.

The Bilkent Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1993 as a unique
artistic project of Bilkent University. Developed and managed by the Faculty of
Music and Performing Arts, the orchestra is composed of proficient artists of
the Music Department from Turkey and 12 countries. With these characteristics
the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra is the first “private, international and
academic artistic ensemble of Turkey.

Concert program : Sibelius’ Violin Concerto, Schubert’s “Unfinished”
Symphony, and the rare Beethoven‘s Symphony n°10 completed by Barry Cooper.

Greek conductor S. Karampini participated successfully at numerous competitions. She conducted the Brussels Philharmonic, Barcelona SO, the Staatstheater Darmstadt and Frankfurt,
the LPO, BBC Philharmonic, St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and Orchestre
National de France.

Sayaka Shoji was the first Japanese violinist to win the
Paganini Competition of Genova. She recorded for Deutsche Grammophon. Shoji plays the Stradivarius, Récamier.

Alexandra Conunova, born in Moldavia, studied at the Hochschule Hannover and plays currently under Renaud Capuçon‘s supervision. She won numerous competitions (among others a bronze medal at the Tchaikovsky Competition, 2015).
