October 31st 2019 in the Clermont-Ferrand Musiques Démesurées Festival, the Orchestre national d’Auvergne under the baton of its musical director, Roberto Forés Veses gave the French premiere of Betsy Jolas’ Side Roads for solo cello and strings. This new work, co-commissioned by the Swedish Chamber Orchestra and the Orchestre national d’Auvergne is the latest in the fruitful collaboration between Anssi  Karttunen and the great French composer whose music is championed by Sir Simon Rattle or the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Prélude symphonique, a work in two movements by Thierry Escaich, composer in residence with the Orchestre national d’Auvergne completed the programme. This score, powerful and virtuosic is a hommage to Beethoven.
