Paris Play Direct Academy 2017

You can now apply for the Paris Play Direct Academy 2017. A project with Music&Arts Networks for the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris :

The opportunity to develop the art of being both musician and conductor with the orchestra is a unique artistic experience. Having direct contact with the musicians in the orchestra, working simultaneously on questions of style, articulation and balance, learning the gestures… so many elements needed to be combined to instill a concerto with the true spirit of chamber music.

The Orchestre de chambre de Paris has made the Play-Direct technique one of the mainstays of its work with many great musicians such as Thomas Zehetmair, Maxim Vengerov, Kolja Blacher, Heinrich Schiff as well as Joseph Swensen, Jeffrey Kahane and François Leleux.

For this fourth edition, the academy will offer a selection of top level pianists an intensive training course on in the Play-Direct technique under the expert guidance of Stephen Kovacevich.

In addition, selected candidates will benefit from masterclasses with pianists Michel BeroffIgor Levit and Momo Kodama, and an introduction to the art of conducting with the conductor Pascal Rophé. Preparatory work sessions, with a reduced instrumental ensemble composed of the Quatuor Leonis and the pianist Ariane Jacob, will precede rehearsals with the 43 musicians of the Orchestre de chambre de Paris.

The Academicians will perform their work at a final concert on Friday, September 8th at the Philharmonie de Paris, during which a winner will be chosen.

Since its creation, the Paris Play-Direct Academy has enjoyed the support of its principal sponsor, the Monceau Insurance Group and a partnership with Steinway & Sons for the 2017 edition.
